FSU Men's basketball is coming off an 0-2 week. Time to panic?

Image
The Florida State Seminoles men's basketball team went 0-2 last week in their first road games. Both games were lost by 10 points, as well. In a stretch which was thought to have been the 'Noles' first true tests, dropping both doesn't raise any green flags. People may think "They can't beat anyone good" or "The offensive struggles are still there from years prior". While these may be warranted thoughts, I don't think it's time to hit the panic button on the 'Noles.     The losses against LSU and NC State were chances for FSU to build their resume for March early in the season, as LSU (56 in NET) would've been a Quad 1 win and NC State (108 in NET) would have fallen into the Quad 3 category. However, the Noles picked up two quality (hopefully) losses early in the season. But that's the key. It's still early. There are still two out of conference games for FSU to play before we get into the heart of conference ball. Thes...

Game Review: FSU 78 - Temple 69

Image
The game got a little close at the end, but the Noles prevail for their second straight victory. Temple has players that are extremely dangerous if overlooked, like Jamal Mashburn Jr, but FSU handled their business and held a top 10 scorer to 20 points on 6-15 shooting from the floor, only 1-4 from deep.     Offensively, FSU dominated the paint (40 to 30) and converted on threes at a more effective rate than we have seen so far this season. At one point, the Seminoles were shooting a red hot 60% from deep, but cooled off and finished the game at 36.8%. Of the eleven players that saw minutes in tonight's game, ten scored. Hamilton loves to use deep rotations, and this team is beginning to prove that it has guys that can contribute. The second unit of Deng, Thomas, Davis, Maluk, and Swinton have served key roles in the early successes of this young season. These guys get into the game and play with high motors that many of the teams FSU has played can't handle with...

Weekend Series Recap: FSU deafeats Boston College in a gritty, "grind-it-out" weekend series

I know it's a little later than usual, but we're back with another edition of the Stevens Scoop. Jamie Arnold prepares to start on Friday Photo Cred: FSUBaseball via X     The now #10 Florida State Seminoles won their second consecutive ACC series this weekend against the BC Eagles. FSU's second rubber match win on the season on Sunday clinched this series and improved the Noles' record to 26-5 overall and 7-5 in the ACC, while BC fell to a 17-13 overall and 6-9 in the ACC. GAME RESULTS: Game 1 - FSU: 12 | BC: 4 Game 2 - FSU: 6 | BC: 7 Game 3 - FSU: 9 | BC: 2 RECAPS AND NOTABLE PLAYERS: Game 1 Scoring:     Game one took place on a very cold and cloudy day in Chestnut Hill. This played into the pitchers' favors as no runs were but on the board until the 3rd inning. The Eagles would open up the scoring for the day after a three run HR from Cameron Leary, his team-leading 11th of the season.     FSU would chip away at the three run lead w...

A Look Ahead: Boston College and the Red Bandana

Image
The #14 Florida State Seminoles travel to Chestnut Hill, Massachusetts, this weekend to take on the Eagles of Boston College. FSU enters this weekend series with a 24-4 record (5-4 in ACC play), and BC enters this weekend series in the middle of a five game win streak. The Eagles are 16-11 overall and 5-7 in ACC play.      Friday's game will be the 52nd meeting all time between these two teams, and FSU leads the all-time series 40-11. BC took this series a season ago two games to one at Dick Howser Stadium. Boston College will be sporting their Red Bandana uniforms to honor Welles Crowther and his heroics during the 9/11 attacks. The Red Bandana uniforms always seem to give the Eagles some juice across all sports so this weekend could be challenging. TALE OF THE TAPE: Batting Average - FSU: .335 (#5 nationally) vs. BC: .300 (#50 nationally) Slugging % - FSU: .581 (#6 nationally) vs. BC: .495 (#51 nationally) On Base Percentage - FSU: .424 (#34 nationally) vs...

They now hold a 24-4 record going into their weekend series at Boston College.  Noles during the Anthem Photo Cred: FSUBaseball via X  JACKSONVILLE GAME RESULTS: FSU: 5 | JU: 3 SCORING:      FSU's first game of their five game week started as a pitching duel, as the score would remain 0-0 until the 3rd inning.       In the bottom of the 3rd inning, after a McGwire Holbrook double, his third of the year, and a Cal Fisher walk, Cam Smith would bring the first run of the game across. Smith grounded out to pitcher Blake Barquin, but since there was previously only one out in the inning, Holbrook was able to cross home plate.      JU quickly responded in the top of the 4th. Clay Hodges knocked a two out single into the outfield after Will Gale was able to reach third base by some sloppy defensive play from the Noles.  Holbrook celebrat...

A Look Ahead: Jacksonville and Bethune-Cookman

FSU moved up to #14 in D1Baseball.com 's top 25 ranking as of Monday, April 1st. The Noles will now move on to two, back-to-back, home games this week against Jacksonville, on Tuesday, and Bethune-Cookman, on Wednesday. FSU will look to remain undefeated in the midweek, and improve upon a strong 16-1 home record. JACKSONVILLE     The Jacksonville University Dolphins travel to Dick Howser Stadium for the second game in the season series against the Noles. The game on Tuesday will be the 180th meeting between the two teams. FSU leads the all-time series 135-44 and were victorious in six of the last ten games these teams have played. Florida State enters this week with a record of 22-4 overall and 5-4 in the ACC putting them at third in the Atlantic division. Jacksonville will enter this contest with a 13-14 overall record, however, their 7-2 ASUN record puts them atop the conference (tied with Stetson).     FSU won the first game of the season seri...

However, FSU responded with an unearned run scored by Max Williams because of a throwing error by Louisville SS Gavin Kilen. Drew Faurot would tie the game at two a piece with an RBI single in the home half of the 4th inning.   *Enter Marco Dinges*      In the bottom of the 5th inning, DH Marco Dinges stepped up to the plate and proceeded to crush his first ever GRAND SLAM, affectionately known as a "Dinges Dinger", to give the Noles a 6-2 lead.
