In this time of tragedy, our athletics programs offer a space for our community to unite and inspire change.

I know this blog has been strictly sport-related, but yesterday's events have made me feel like this article is as relevant as ever.      The tragic events that hit Florida State yesterday afternoon have changed many lives throughout Tallahassee and left the town in a heavy silence. It's an experience that no person or family should go through, and for many students, this has been their second experience with this tragedy.       I offer my deepest condolences to the families who lost their loved ones. As a community, we will mourn your loss alongside you. For the students who were stuck in the middle of that terrible situation, your fellow Seminoles are here to offer you a place of comfort and support as we get through this tough time together.     This has caused so much trauma in the students who were caught in the middle of the crossfire, the faculty who risked their lives to protect the students, and the families surr...

Will FSU continue to respond to adversity as they have done throughout the season?

Image
The number seven Florida State Seminoles are back in action this afternoon to play their second game against the USF Bulls this season. The last time these two teams faced off, the Noles came out on top 6-2 in Tampa. Four FSU batters recorded two hits (Lodise, M. Williams, C. Williams, and Cal Fisher), and Evan Chrest was still on the mound. This FSU looks a little different now, as they're dealing with some injuries across the board, but this hasn't stopped them before.     Throughout the season, the Noles have responded to adversity time and time again.      After starting the season 15-0, FSU dropped their first game to the Florida Gators, where the Noles only put up two runs. They followed this with a sweep of the BC Eagles in their first conference series of the young season and outscored the Eagles 28-4.     The very next week, the Noles took a pretty bad midweek loss to Mercer, who has now defeated FSU in their last tw...

Roster Overhaul: Coach Luke Loucks makes his first moves as the new FSU Basketball Coach

Image
The transfer portal for college basketball officially opened on Monday, March 24, which means coaches and players are scrambling to make contacts.      Florida State's new basketball coach, Luke Loucks, has also entered the Wild West of the transfer portal. This is necessary for Coach Loucks to build his new roster, as five Seminoles have already left last season's team.     Two of the more notable transfers are guard Chandler Jackson and forward Taylor Bol Bowen. Jackson finished the 2024-2025 season with a career-high 6.3 points, 2.1 rebounds, 2.0 assists, and was tied for first on the team in steals (38). Jackson started in 27 games but was a consistent offensive player who brought a proper understanding of the FSU culture to the team.     Taylor Bol Bowen was a key contributor to last season's FSU team. He was easily FSU’s top three-point shooter, making 41.4% of his attempts from beyond the arc. Bowen's offensive sk...

Coach Ham and the Noles travel to Cameron Indoor and face what is sure to be a hostile crowd

Image
The Noles are headed to Cameron Indoor for their 36th game all-time against the Duke Blue Devils. Duke enters on a five-game win streak, with their lowest margin of victory sitting at a measly 18 points. Florida State University is looking to steal a game after being on the wrong end of a two-game losing streak.      In the last 20 or so seasons, the Noles have beaten the Blue Devils just seven times. However, this series has produced some classics like the Michael Snaer beater and the court storm back in the 2021 season. Offense     Under Coach Scheyer, the Blue Devils run a motion or early action offense once run by Hall of Famer, Coach K. Their motion sets see players 1 through 5 constantly moving around the court, creating cutting lanes or opportunities for their players to drive to the basket due to missed rotations.      This could pose some difficulties for FSU's defense, as we know they love to switch on everythi...

The Noles look to remain undefeated in their first ever series against Georgetown

Image
After a gritty 9-6 victory over the JU Dolphins on Wednesday, FSU is back at Howser to take on a team for the first time in its historic program.      The Georgetown Hoyas are coached by Edwin Thompson. Thompson is now in his fifth season at the helm and has led the Hoyas to recent success. Georgetown has racked up three consecutive 30+ win seasons for the first time in school history and finished with its highest RPI ever a season ago (58).     The Hoyas return 22 players from their 2024 roster, so they have a team full of guys with experience and chemistry.  Pitching Matchups Friday :  JT Raab vs Jamie Arnold Raab 2.45 ERA 11.0 IP 10 K (leads team) 2 BB Arnold 0.00 ERA, just one of six pitchers yet to allow a run 16 K 0 BB 11.0 IP Saturday: Sapienza vs Volini Sapienza 8.53 ERA 6.1 IP 8 K 2 BB Volini 1.74 ERA 10.1 IP 13 K 2 BB Sunday: Andrew Williams vs. Mendes Williams 5.40 ERA 5.0 IP 5 k Mendes 0.90 ERA 10.0 IP 16 K 2 BB B...

FSU gets its second weekend series sweep and prepares for a midweek matchup against JU

Image
The Florida State Seminoles and Coach Link Jarrett return to the diamond on Tuesday after sweeping the Penn Quakers over the weekend.       FSU will travel across 1-10 to Jacksonville to play against the JU Dolphins in the newest edition of a historic baseball series between the two programs. A tradition started by legendary head coach Mike Martin will see its 182nd game played. The Noles snuck out a 7-6 victory in 11 innings the last time these two played.     Before we talk about JU, let's take a look at what happened last weekend.  Penn Review     FSU's defense shut down the Quakers nearly all weekend. The Noles outscored the Quakers 38 to 7 across the three games, thanks to some great defense. As each game goes on, FSU makes it more and more evident that they will hang their hat on their pitching and ability to prevent runs by the eight other players on defense.      The Noles' starting pitching rotation is off to as good o...

Florida State travels to Chapel Hill to face RJ Davis and the Tarheels

Image
The Seminoles travel to Chapel Hill on the next stop on Hamilton's farewell tour. The Tar Heels are coming off a three-game win streak, and the Noles will enter this game after coming up short in their last matchup against Louisville.      UNC Head Coach Hubert Davis and Coach Ham share some history. Back in the 2000-2001 NBA season, Leonard Hamilton, coach of the Washington Wizards, had a man by the name of Hubert Davis on his roster.      In the latest edition of Joe Lunardi's bracketology, the Tar Heels are one of the first four teams out of the NCAA tourney, so Coach Davis and his crew will be eager for their sixth win in a row in matchups with FSU.  Offense     Entering this game, UNC ranks 33rd nationally in offensive efficiency. Coach Davis and the Tar Heels run what's called a "four out" offense. This offensive set usually has four UNC players above the three-point line. This allows their crafty guards like ...
